Last week, I took my three little boys to the beach. I have never attempted this before by myself, in part because the youngest is only 3 and previously was too small for me to manage in that setting with his older brothers in tow.
I was a little intimidated, but we had an awesome day!
On our way from the car to the beach, we all wore our masks. When we reached the sand, I was shocked to see how crowded it was. I quietly prayed, “God, please help us find a way to socially distance.” Would you believe it? Two minutes later, and two hours ahead of schedule, the sky burst open and the rain poured down. A park employee told me there was no lightening in the area, so we ran around to stay warm while everyone else fled the beach. Twenty minutes later, the rain stopped, and the beach was 75% less crowded. It was literally an answered prayer!
When it was time to go, we loaded our supplies into our trusty green wagon and headed back to the car. I got all the boys settled, and then I turned to the wagon. It was big and heavy and covered in sandy things, so I didn’t really want to unload it piecemeal to get everything back into the van. I turned toward the wagon, put my hands on my hips, and cheered myself on by shouting: “This Mama is awesome! Let’s do this!”(And yes, I was totally referring to myself in the third person.)
I bent over to lift up the wagon, and a dad-looking fellow suddenly appeared out of nowhere, grabbed the other side of it, and helped me lift it into the van. He laughed and said, “Trust me, you can end up with back surgery doing that,” and then he disappeared as fast as he came.
People can be so nice!
