Dear Friends,
I must admit that one of my post-child-bearing struggles has been looking in the mirror and seeing anything other than used-up. The media and even my Facebook feed is full of ladies who have managed to hang onto their girlhood; meanwhile, my “jar of clay” seems to be morphing into something altogether ordinary.
If you find yourself in this spot this morning, can I urge you to recognize an idol? Popular culture might worship eternal girlhood, but that doesn’t mean that you have to do the same. One of the greatest freedoms in the Christian faith is the freedom to grow more beautiful with the passage of time.
If you struggle with this issue as I do, take time to surrender your idol today and ask the Lord to give you new eyes to see a beauty that will remain fresh, green, and fruitful through the twilight of your days. Today, I will pray that God will give us all eyes to see ourselves as he does, valuing our maturity and bestowing dignity on our frame.
In His Name,
Praying the Scriptures:
Psalm 92:12-14: The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green . . .
I Peter 3:3: Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
Proverbs 16:31: Gray hair is a splendor . . .
Proverbs 31:25: She is clothed in strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
I Corinthians 13:11: When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
